Dan Brown Prague Walking Tour
Walk through Prague, exploring the locations where Dan Brown's novel The Secret of Secrets takes place. Your guide will be a Prague native who will take you to places the average tourist never gets to see. You will see the famous Astronomical Clock (Orloj), the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the Týn Literary Café, and Black Angel's Bar on the Old Town Square; in the adjacent Jewish Quarter, you will view the Old Jewish Cemetery and the Old-New Synagogue. 1. Pražský orloj
This unique medieval astronomical clock from 1410 is the third-oldest clock of its kind in the world and the oldest one still in operation. In addition to the time, it shows the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky, and its mechanics conceal symbolism that continues to amaze scientists to this day.
"Langdon fixed his gaze on the golden astrolabe. As the apostles paraded above him in their endless circle, he noticed a slight deviation in the engraving near the sign of Scorpio. It wasn't a mistake by the old clockmaker. It was a signpost."
2. Church of Our Lady before Týn
A pinnacle of late Gothic architecture, this basilica was the main church of the Old Town in the late Middle Ages. Located near the Royal Court, it was frequently visited by King Wenceslas IV. The eminent early modern astronomer, astrologer, and alchemist Tycho Brahe is buried in the temple.
"The air inside the temple smelled of incense and centuries of unspoken secrets. They stopped at Tycho Brahe's tomb. Langdon ran his finger over the cold marble—exactly where the legendary astronomer had his silver nose carved. The relief gave way slightly."
3. Týn Literary Café
A hidden oasis of calm in the alleys behind the Týn Church. For decades, this inconspicuous courtyard has been a refuge for writers, intellectuals, and students who discuss history and philosophy over a cup of coffee.
"The café hummed with muted voices. They sat in the darkest corner, an open yellowed parchment lying on the table between them. The code made no sense until the light from a streetlamp hit it, revealing the Illuminati watermark."
4. Black Angel´s Bar
This prestigious bar is located in a 12th-century Gothic cellar that breathes the atmosphere of Prohibition. The authentic stone vaults and chiaroscuro lighting create the illusion of falling back in time to an era when alchemists and secret brotherhoods gathered here.
"They descended the stone stairs into the underground. The clinking of cut glass drowned out the footsteps of the men in suits who had been following them since the Clementinum. Langdon ordered a drink, his eyes scanning the vault for the next carved symbol."
5. Old Jewish Cemetery
One of the most important Jewish cemeteries in the world, in operation since the first half of the 15th century. Due to a lack of space, burials took place in up to ten layers, creating a unique, mysterious scenery of leaning tombstones.
"The shadows of ancient elder trees stretched across the crumbling tombstones. They stopped at the grave of Rabbi Löw. According to legend, people place slips of paper with wishes here, but the one Langdon just pulled from a crevice in the stone contained GPS coordinates."
6. Old-New Synagogue
The oldest active synagogue in Europe, built in the 13th century. It is shrouded in many legends—the most famous claims that the clay remains of the mythical Prague Golem are still kept in its attic.
"He looked up at the heavy iron doors leading to the attic. The local rabbi had warned them that no one had entered for centuries. The dust on the floor, however, told a different story—there were fresh boot prints the size only a giant could have. Or a Golem."
7. Clementinum (Library and Astronomical Tower)
The former Jesuit college hides a Baroque library that is often described as the most beautiful in the world. In the adjacent Astronomical Tower, Johannes Kepler conducted his measurements, and historical measuring instruments are still located here today.
"They entered the Baroque library. The ceiling frescoes depicted the triumph of knowledge. Langdon pulled a rare volume of Kepler's writings from the shelf. A small brass key bearing a Rosicrucian symbol fell from its pages."
8. Hotel Four Seasons
A luxury hotel complex connecting several historical eras, from the Renaissance to Neoclassicism. Its terraces offer one of the most iconic views of Prague Castle and the Vltava River.
"In the luxurious suite overlooking the Vltava, Langdon finally allowed himself to exhale. The silence was broken by a soft rustle. A white envelope made of thick cotton fibers slid under the door. It was sealed with red wax bearing the impression of a double-headed eagle."
9. Charles Bridge
The oldest standing bridge over the Vltava River, whose foundation stone was laid by Charles IV on exactly July 9, 1357, at 5:31 AM. This magical sequence of odd numbers (1-3-5-7-9-7-5-3-1) was supposed to guarantee the bridge's indestructibility.
"The fog over the Vltava absorbed all the light. The thirty Baroque statues lining the bridge looked like silent witnesses to the ongoing manhunt. At the statue of St. John of Nepomuk, Langdon unexpectedly stopped. The gold cross on the relief was turned upside down."
10. American Embassy (Schönborn Palace)
The monumental Baroque palace in the Lesser Town has served US diplomatic purposes for almost a century. It includes extensive cascading gardens with a gloriette that climbs up the slope of Petřín Hill.
"Hidden behind the massive wall of the embassy garden, they watched the flashing lights of the Czech police in the streets below. 'We're on sovereign US territory,' Sophie whispered. 'They can't get us here. But the man we're looking for is waiting for us up there.'"
11. Petřín Lookout Tower and Mirror Maze
A smaller copy of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, built for the Jubilee Exhibition in 1891. In the same year, a wooden mirror maze was created, originally serving as a pavilion for the Czech Tourist Club.
"They ran through the labyrinth of mirrors. Every movement was reflected ten times; reality shattered into dozens of false images. The gunshot that smashed the mirror right next to Langdon's head, however, was a stark reminder that the danger was all too real."
12. Folimanka Park and Bastion u Božích muk
A place where nature blends with the massive remains of historical Prague fortifications. The Bastion, part of the former walls of the New Town, now offers impressive views and an architecturally acclaimed transformation of old fortifications into a modern space.
"They walked to the edge of the Bastion. Below them stretched Prague at night, the city of a hundred spires bathed in yellow light. Here, at the Wayside Cross, where condemned men once stood facing death, all the pieces finally fell into place. The greatest secret of all wasn't buried in the earth. It was carved into the very floor plan of the city."
